What starts out as just a regular night at a bar between two old friends reaffirming their friendship over a few drinks, turns into a confusing night of frustration, deceit, lies and unwelcome truths. Horse Head Theatre Co.’s take on Fault Lines will be a night at the bar with a riveting story – where the lines between performer and viewer are barely visible. Through March 27.

Dirty Secrets from the Cataract Cinema - Dan Havel & Chuck Ivy - opens on Friday with both artists exploring the visual and emotional potential of salvaging old film images and re-mixing them to create digital prints and short films in the John M. O’Quinn Gallery. Also on view are Snack Projects feat. Dean Ruck, Laureate by Anne Allen, Tip Toe by Jonathan C. Leach & Ariane Roesch, site: interventions, observations & simulations by Caroline Gore. And to top it off, Frosted Betty Bake Shop will be parked in the parking lot selling gourmet cupcakes.

Highlighting the diversity of the Menil neighborhood arts community the festival will include music, literary readings, performances, films, workshops, open galleries and family art activities with some of the premier arts groups in the heart of Houston’s museum district. Participating organizations include Art Colony Association (Bayou City Arts Festival), Aurora Picture Show, Byzantine Fresco Chapel Museum, Da Camera, Inprint, The Menil Collection, Southwest Alternate Media Project, Texas Accountants and Lawyers for the Arts, the Rothko Chapel, Watercolor Art Society-Houston, and Writers in the Schools.

The final night of Will Eno’s “The Flu Season” directed by Matt Huff. Winner of the 2004 Oppenheimer Award for best New York debut by an American playwright, The Flu Season is a reluctant love story, in spite of itself. Set in a hospital and a theater, it is a play that revels in ambivalence and derives a flailing energy from its doubts whether a love story is ever really a love story. The Consulate-General of Japan at Houston and Alamo Drafthouse will screen School Days with a Pig (6:30p - A new school teacher arrives at school with an interesting proposal: the class will raise a pig and at the end of the term they will eat it) and Tokyo Sonata (8:30p - A story about a seemingly normal happy family of four as they begin to spiral out of control. Acclaimed for his thrillers and suspense films, director Kiyoshi Kurosawa confronts the dark side of human nature and the social problems of contemporary Japan). Both films are free to attend.
