Houston Young People for the Arts encourages Houston’s young art supporters to get involved in the Houston arts scene. We are a constant source of information on how to get involved and here are just a few ways.

Houston Young People for the Arts

“In-crowd fave,” (Houston magazine, December 2008) explores Houston’s art scene through monthly events available only to members. We aim to advance awareness of current cultural events within the Houston art scene. HYPA provides Houston young professionals a unique opportunity to view – and participate in – the burgeoning art landscape without emptying their pockets. Membership is $65 and includes access to all HYPA and Houston Downtown Alliance programming, as well as Emerging Leaders - the business networking YP group of HDA.. It also includes invitations to HYPA members-only events: events exclusively for our members.

Beaver’s, Balls & Ballet with Trey McIntyre Project | November 12 & 13, 2009. Join us for two evenings (cocktail party on one and performance on another) with one of the world’s most-renowned superstar dance choreographers when he brings his dance company to Houston. More details here.

Emerging Leaders

Emerging Leaders promotes the growth of young professionals while supporting the development of a vibrant Downtown Houston.

The Houston Downtown Alliance’s Emerging Leaders (EL) is the largest young professionals group in Houston. EL is a vast networking group with membership exceeding 600 members and over 300 companies and organizations represented. EL promotes downtown businesses, supports philanthropic activities, and plans social events all to encourage the professional development of all of our members. Emerging Leaders is also a great program for corporations that are interested in involving their young professionals in all aspects of Houston and meeting other like-minded individuals. UP @ TUTS
Theatre Under The Stars’ Urban Professionals group, known as UP@TUTS, is made up of young, arts activists and hip theatre-lovers from the ages of 21-39. UP@TUTS offers everything from cast parties, talk-backs, backstage tours and exclusive events, to educational and community outreach opportunities.

UP @ TUTS’ Upcoming Events:
Join UP @ TUTS at the Angelika Film Center on Wednesday, December 2 for a sing-a-long screening of the film The Sound of Music. With interactive prop bags and costumes encouraged, this is a must-see event for any fans of The Sound of Music !

DiverseWorks is a non-profit art center dedicated to presenting new visual, performing, and literary art. DiverseWorks is a place where the process of creating art is valued and where artists can test new ideas in the public arena. By encouraging the investigation of current artistic, cultural and social issues, DiverseWorks builds, educates, and sustains audiences for contemporary art.

Both borrowing from and subverting religious rituals, Minneapolis´ Morgan Thorson, a rising force on the national contemporary dance scene, breaks choreographic conventions in order to uncover the universal allure of transformation through Heaven´s holy performance trinity: dance, music and light. Created as an ensemble dance and vocal piece, Heaven explores the various manifestations of ecstasy-emotional, physical and communal-present both in religious practices and in the ritualistic nature of dance in performance. Indie band Low´s Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker will perform the music and vocal orchestration they wrote for the work. The Health Museum
The Health Museum Professionals Circle

The Health Museum’s Professionals Circle is a group of young professionals dedicated to promoting good health in the city of Houston while supporting The Health Museum. The John P. McGovern Museum of Health & Medical Science. The Health Museum is an interactive and entertaining science experience for all ages that promotes understanding and appreciation of the human body, mind and spirit and inspires a lifelong commitment to health and wellness. Also known as The Health Museum, we are the nation’s only interactive health science learning center and the only museum member of the world-renowned Texas Medical Center. Located in the heart of the city’s rich and varied Museum District, The Health Museum encourages growing interest and regard for healthier lifestyles, fitness and good physical, mental and spiritual health. ArchiTypes
ArchiTypes is a membership organization of Architecture Center Houston (ArCH) dedicated to increasing appreciation of architecture, understanding our built environment, and encouraging sustainable development. There are no membership requirements other than an interest in architecture including environmental responsibility, urban design, interior design, and landscape architecture as well as traditional and non-traditional buildings. Individual membership is $50 and dual membership is $75 annually.

Membership provides among its many benefits, networking opportunities for like-minded individuals, private tours of unique architectural spaces, and general access to information about the latest developments in the greater Houston area concerning architecture and design through exhibitions, lectures, panels and workshops. We often collaborate with other compatible and innovative groups in Houston including the Buffalo Bayou Partnership, HYPA, Spacetaker, Society for Performing Arts and Spacetaker.

ArchiTypes can also participate in ongoing programs of the American Institute of Architects, Houston, including the Sandcastle Competition in Galveston, Gulf Coast Green, the AIA Home Tour and the annual Celebrate Architecture Gala. Authors in Architecture, Historic Texas Courthouses by Michael Andrews

Native Texan Mike Andrews begins his literary career with Historic Texas Courthouses, a look at 100 of the state’s most architecturally significant courthouses. The former member of Congress indulges his passion for history by serving on the boards of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Center for American History at the University of Texas.

Renowned architectural photographer Paul Hester is on the faculty of the Visual Arts Department of Rice University. He is a past president and founding member of the Houston Center for Photography.

Working as Hester + Hardaway with partner Lisa Hardaway, the two spent a year capturing the architectural images for Historic Texas Courthouses.
