Upcoming HYPA Events
Join Houston Young People for the Arts for an evening with Opera Vista!
Join our steering committee members for this annual competition pitting 7 semi-finalists from around the world against each other.
A great part: You get to be the judge!
Here’s how it works: You’ll see excerpts from the four finalist operas — selected from Wednesday’s audience (this all starts on March 24…which you are free to attend, too). An internationally-renowned panel of judges will ask one question and then the audience can ask the composers questions. The audience will determine the winner and results will be announced on Saturday, March 27th.
Tickets are $20 for everyone. Visit http://www.operavista.org to purchase tickets.
Semi-finalists include:
And Then I Remember, Music by Lembit Beecher, Ann Arbor, MI
Bamboo Cutter and the Moon, Music by Joseph Eidson, Lawrence, KS
Happy Garden of Life, Music by Katarzyna Brochocka, Lidzbark Warmiński, Poland
Joc de Mans, Music by Alberto Garcia Demestres, Santa Maria de Palautordera, Spain
The Monkey’s Paw, Music by Jonathan Kupper, La Mirada, CA

HYPA Steering Committee: Andrea Cody, Michael Coppens, Kristy Junco, Edward Sanchez, Rowena Sahulee, Mahek Shah, Viswa Subbaraman
This is not a HYPA members-only event — it is open to all.
